I'm on my way home after participating in the best Higher Ed conference I have attended, HighEdWebDev. Many great conversations and strong networking opportunities made this an excellent conference. I will be back next year, however it will be in Missouri.
I'm on vacation until Monday. At that time I'll recap the conference. In the mean time, here check out what Colgate is doing with their news.
See you on Monday!

Very interesting. Our campus news items are already controlled by wordpress, so activating comments would be very easy. A top concern of course, being moderation, and comment spam.
But in the end, if we really are going to embrace the whole idea of the conversation being part of our marketing and message, then news comments are a big step in that direction.
I think it's one of those improvements that gets positive reaction if you were to call a meeting and discuss it, but then you find that people are usually squeamish about committing time to moderate comments.
I'll be watching colgate. Thanks for the link. You blog has been rocking lately. Lots of great, informative posts.

Thanks for the recap on Collegewebeditor.com. I have actually been reading your site for awhile but didnt make the connection when I met you. By the way, I really like your presentation.
@chuck... It makes sense. In higher ed, it seems many times we are slightly behind the corporate world. Many news sites are implementing this feature. Keep the comments unfiltered, take the bad with the good. In hindsight, there is no such thing as bad PR. As for the spam, I understand the concern. Captcha's help, but they are not user friendly. Other techniques are starting to pop up which should help: http://www.gottaquirk.com/post/181/an-alternative-to-irritating-captchas-
@Matt... It was great meeting you as well. Thanks for the discussions and keep the del.icio.us goodness coming!
